9 Essential Things to Do After Launching Your Website (Web Design Tips for Irish Businesses)
Just launched your new site? Here's a 9-step checklist to boost SEO, visibility, and performance after going live. Perfect for Irish businesses, creatives, and sustainability-led brands.
9 Essential Things to Do After Launching Your Website
So, your new website is finally live congratulations! Whether you're a creative entrepreneur, tradesperson, or sustainability project, getting your website designed is a big step. But here's the thing: launching the site is just the beginning.
To make sure your new digital home starts working for you, bringing in enquiries, ranking on Google, and building trust with visitors, there are a few key steps to take after launch. This post-launch checklist will help you cover all the bases.
1. Test Everything Across Devices
Even if the site looks great, double-check how it performs on both mobile and desktop. Click every button, form, and link to make sure nothing is broken. Submit a test enquiry through the contact form and make sure it arrives in your inbox. It's surprising how often small glitches get missed.
At Hamilton Solutions, I always test sites before I launch, but it's worth doing a round of live testing once it's public just in case.
2. Submit Your Site to Google
If you want people to find your site organically, Google needs to know it exists. Use Google Search Console to submit your sitemap and request indexing. This helps Google begin to crawl your site and show it in search results which is crucial for building visibility over time.
If you’re not sure how to do this, I offer ongoing SEO support for all my clients after launch.
3. Set Up Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a free tool that lets you see who’s visiting your site, what pages they’re viewing, and how they’re finding you. Over time, this data helps you make smarter decisions around content, SEO, and marketing.
If you're a client of mine, I can help you connect your website to Analytics and walk you through the basics during our post-launch training session.
4. Back Up Your Site Regularly
Websites aren’t immune to tech hiccups. Whether it's a plugin update gone wrong or a server issue, having regular backups gives you peace of mind. Check if your hosting provider includes automatic backups or ask me about adding a backup plugin if you're using WordPress.
5. Secure Your Website
Your website should have an SSL certificate (that little padlock icon in the browser bar). This keeps your visitor data secure and builds trust. Most reputable hosts include SSL for free. I also recommend security tools or plugins to prevent spam and malicious attacks especially if you have forms on your site.
6. Announce the Launch
Shout it from the rooftops! Post the site launch on Instagram, LinkedIn, or wherever your people are active online. If you have an email list, send a short message letting people know the new site is live.
7. Update Your Online Presence
Now that you have a proper digital home, make sure it’s linked everywhere:
Google Business Profile
Instagram bio
LinkedIn page
Email signature
WhatsApp business profile
This helps people find your site no matter where they come across your brand.
8. Keep Content Fresh
Websites that grow over time perform better. Consider adding a blog, portfolio updates, new service offerings, or testimonials. If you're unsure where to start, check out my blog for ideas and examples of SEO-friendly posts that bring in traffic.
Fresh content also tells Google your site is active, which helps with search engine optimisation in the long run.
9. Track Your SEO Progress
Search engine optimisation (SEO) doesn’t work overnight - but it does work. Use tools like Google Search Console or Ubersuggest to track what keywords you're ranking for. Over time, your traffic will grow as long as your site is built well, updated regularly, and includes relevant content.
