Looking for Web Designers in Dublin? Here’s What to Know Before You Hire One
If you’re a small business owner in Dublin thinking about getting a website or maybe refreshing an old one, you’ve probably typed something like “web designers Dublin” into Google already.
There’s no shortage of results. Freelancers, big agencies, lads overseas offering it for €200... it can get overwhelming fast.
I run a small web design studio here in Dublin called Hamilton Solutions, and I put this together to help make things a bit clearer. No fluff, just a few things I think are genuinely worth knowing before you hire anyone.
1. Working with Someone Local Makes a Big Difference
There’s nothing wrong with hiring someone abroad, but working with a Dublin-based designer means they get the tone, the style, and what your customers are actually looking for.
It also means you can grab a coffee and talk through things properly if needed. I’ve even done drone shoots or photos for some local clients when it helps tell their story better.
A good local designer will also make sure you’re showing up on Google Maps, on Search, and that your Google Business Profile is set up properly too - not just throwing up a site and leaving you to figure it out.
2. Ask About the Process, Not Just the Price
Some people just want a quick site for the cheapest price. And that’s grand, but be clear on what you’re getting.
Here are a few things worth checking:
Will they help with writing the content, or are you on your own?
Will the site work properly on mobile?
Is SEO included (even basic setup)?
Do you get shown how to update anything yourself after?
Personally, I like to keep things simple. I work with clients from start to finish, help with content, set up their domain, build the site, sort SEO basics, and make sure they know how to use it after.
3. A Website Without SEO Is Just a Pretty Poster in a Forest
There’s no point having a great site if no one can find it.
When people search things like “life coach Dublin” or “electrician near me”, Google’s looking at:
Your Google Business listing
Your site content and keywords
Whether your site works well on mobile
Page speed and location relevance
I always make sure the websites I build include SEO basics like title tags, search-friendly content, and local keywords that actually help you get found.
4. Don't Get Ripped Off (Or Left Hanging)
I’ve heard it all…quotes for €9k+ that include stuff a small business doesn’t need… or €300 sites that never get finished.
A good web designer should:
Be upfront about pricing
Stay in touch and explain things clearly
Actually care if your site helps your business grow
You want someone who sticks around after the launch too not someone who ghosts once it’s live.
Final Thoughts
Having a proper website isn’t about ticking a box. It is the opportunity to give people a clear place to go when they want to trust you, book with you, or learn more about what you do.
If you’re thinking about getting a site made and want to talk it through even just to see where to start, I’m always happy to have a quick chat.
Just honest advice from someone who builds sites for real Dublin businesses.
All the best,
Luke
